Art From Ashes was founded in 2006 by Jane Giat, Deb Brown and Jenny Bourgeois in Amherst, MA after years of research and numerous attempts to locate artistic glass memorials that would properly honor the memory of their treasured pets. They knew first-hand the devastating pain caused by the death of a loved one and the comfort that enduring memories provide. They were inspired by the beauty and the strength of a favorite grandmother’s paperweight collection, acquired over a 100 year lifetime of travel and memories. An Art From Ashes remembrance honors the memory off a deceased loved one using the aesthetic to express the spiritual. The bird in our logo represents a Phoenix, the legendary symbol of immortality.

After working with Nate Macomber for over 6 years, they felt that he was the right person to lead Art From Ashes into the future continuing the quality of workmanship, the exceptional customer service and giving the compassion and support to the Art From Ashes clients as reflected in their testimonials as well as in their financial commitment to health-related charities and animal rescue organizations.

About the Artists:

Nathan Macomber

Nate first blew glass at Massachusetts College of Art in 1995; he was hooked from the first bubble. Nate received his BA in Glass from Prescott College in 1999 and has studied glass at the Massachusetts College of Art, the Corning Museum of Glass, and the Penland School of Arts and Crafts. Nate's colorful glass shields, vases and bowls show a true mastery of the difficult medium of hot glass. He often combines forged iron into his work. In the fall of 2003 several of his glass pumpkins were used on the set of the Today Show. In 2004, the League of New Hampshire Craftsmen named Nate their Craftsman of the Year. His work can be seen in galleries throughout New England and Arizona as well as in various juried art shows.

Robert Burch

Robert Burch has been working in blown glass for over 35 years, creating exquisite works of art in his 200 year-old barn/studio in Putney, VT. His glasswork includes vases, perfume bottles, paperweights, as well as glass sculpture and one-of-a-kind commissioned pieces. Robert's works have been shown in numerous juried shows and galleries across the country since 1977. In 1998 he was commissioned to create a glass ornament for the White House Christmas tree. In 2001, Robert was commissioned to create the Vermont Governor's Award for Excellence in the Arts, and has created this glass sculpture award every year since. Macy's, Bloomingdales, and Neiman-Marcus are some of his commercial clients.

Jacquelyn Koba

Jacquelyn Koba has been lampworking since 2000. She attended MWPI Pratt Arts Institute in upstate NY for a fine arts degree and has continued to take classes in several mediums though out the years. The past 19 years she has been a full time artist working with primarily borosilicate glass with wide range of pieces from beads, marbles and sculptural work. She also designs her own line of jewelry, metalsmithing and enjoys painting. She also teaches several workshops at her home studio. Her work has been featured at several galleries and shops across the country, including Corning Museum of Glass. And also has been featured artist and how to in several publications such as Glassline and The Flow.
